Dear Parents,

The summer is finally upon us and we are looking forward to a well-earned break. Despite the odd weather and a blackout, we have managed to pack loads into the weeks since Easter and the students have shown their regular positive spirit throughout.

Graduation dinner and ceremony

It is always a sad moment when we say goodbye to our Year 13 students, and this year was no different, especially given the number of them that have been at Swans since Early Years, and a large number of staff children amongst them. We enjoyed a lovely ceremony at Finca La Concepcion with speeches, music and poetry, before they were all celebrated for one last time and threw their hats in the air. We await their IB results on July 5th, with some amazing offers to be fulfilled from prestigious universities such as The London School of Economics, King’s College London and UCL. They have been a fantastic year group and I have to commend them for their conduct and willingness to take advantage of every opportunity this school has given them. They serve as a great example to future cohorts.

Year 11 Celebration Evening

We also celebrated our Year 11 students who completed their (I)GCSEs via a lovely ceremony for their families in the school theatre. They were beautifully dressed for the occasion and reflected on their journey so far at Swans through speeches, music and videos. They will go on to be a great Sixth Form and we wish them well for their results in August.

Summer Gala

We left the ceremony to attend another wonderful Summer Gala on the school astroturf. It is one of my favourite events of the year and a lovely chance to mingle with parents and students in an informal setting, listening to some amazing music arranged by the students under the guidance of Mr Tim Pritchard and Miss Jessica Evans; the perfect way to bring on the summer holiday!

Battle of the Bands

Music is also a big feature of this term as we have the Year 8 and 9 Battle of the Bands gig, and this was the best one yet. The students got their grunge on and played some ‘bangers’, to the delight of their parents and peers, from Arctic Monkeys to Red Hot Chilli Peppers. It was a trip down memory lane for many of us and the students performed brilliantly in front of an audience, which is amazing considering many of them do not usually play an instrument. Huge credit goes to our amazing Music Department for their innovation and enthusiasm, which really translates to the students.

Activities and Trips

We also had some amazing activities taking place over the past two weeks, including the Key Stage 3 Science Fair, where the students created their own experiments which they then displayed and explained to other students and parents. They did a fantastic job and came up with some fascinating ideas, and it was so lovely to hear students as young as Year 7 delivering their results with such maturity and authority.

We also had a visit from the company 8 Billion Ideas, who ran a workshop with our Year 10 students for the second year running. This two-day event encouraged the students to create a new product, design it, market it and then pitch it to teachers and parents in a trade-fair environment, with amazing results. They spoke with such confidence and enthusiasm, and it is clear we have some budding entrepreneurs in Year 10.

Trips

The past two weeks have also seen our students out on End of Year trips, with Year 6 in Córdoba, Year 7 in Cádiz and Year 9 in Madrid, while Year 10 completed some activity days mixed in with university and careers workshops. It is a nice way to end the school year and many memories have been made, so thank you for the teachers who ran the visits.

Our last day involved our annual Prize-Giving, with students receiving awards for effort and attainment from each of their subjects in the different Key Stages. It is great to recognise and reward all of their hard work from this year and congratulations to everyone who was nominated.

Headteacher Awards 2025

Farewell Miss Karen

It is a sad moment for us as we say goodbye to Karen Kearns, Head of Primary, who is relocating back to the UK. As Principal of both schools for a number of years, Karen played a big part in developing our Secondary School, and many of the staff at Swans School Secondary have a strong connection with her. I will miss her both as a colleague and a friend, and we wish her all the best for the future.

Can I say a fond farewell to students and staff that are leaving us this year. All of you have contributed to making this great school what it is today and we wish you all the best for the future.

Please enjoy a wonderful summer break.The students will return to school on Wednesday 3rd September, so please enjoy some downtime and maybe put the smartphone away for while.

Thank you for all of your support this year. Our school continues to improve, and that is largely down to all of your engagement and involvement as parents, which helps us to do our jobs effectively.

Verano 2025: Director Académico resumen de fin de curso 

Estimados padres:

Por fin llegó el verano y todos estamos deseando disfrutar de unas merecidas vacaciones. A pesar del mal tiempo de los últimos meses y tras el incidente del apagón, hemos aprovechado al máximo el último trimestre desde Semana Santa, y los alumnos han demostrado en todo momento un excelente espíritu positivo.

Cena y ceremonia de graduación

Siempre es un momento triste despedirnos de nuestros alumnos de Year 13, y este año no fue una excepción, sobre todo considerando que muchos de ellos llevan con nosotros en Swans desde Early Years, y además entre ellos hay un gran número de hijos del personal. Disfrutamos de una encantadora ceremonia en la Finca La Concepción con discursos, música en directo y poesía, antes de que todos fueran homenajeados por última vez y se despidieran. Esperamos sus resultados de IB el próximo 5 de julio, con ofertas increíbles de prestigiosas universidades como The London School of Economics, King's College London y UCL. Este grupo ha sido un curso fantástico y debo felicitarles por su conducta y su disposición por aprovechar cada oportunidad que este colegio les ha brindado. Son un gran ejemplo para las futuras generaciones.

Noche de Celebración de Year 11

También celebramos con nuestros alumnos de Year 11, que completaron sus (I)GCSE, una encantadora ceremonia para sus familias en el teatro del colegio. Lucieron elegantemente vestidos para la ocasión, y reflexionaron sobre su trayectoria en Swans a través de discursos, música en vivo y vídeos emotivos. Serán unos alumnos de Sixth Form excelentes y les deseamos lo mejor en sus resultados de agosto.

Gala de Verano

Después de la ceremonia, asistimos a otra maravillosa Gala de Verano en el colegio. Es uno de mis eventos favoritos del año, y una fantástica oportunidad para conversar con padres y alumnos en un ambiente informal, escuchando música compuesta por los estudiantes, bajo la dirección de Mr Tim Pritchard y Miss Jessica Evans. ¡La manera perfecta de empezar las vacaciones de verano!

 

Batalla de Bandas

La música también ha sido un tema importante este trimestre, ya que disfrutamos del concierto de la Batalla de Bandas de Year 8 y Year 9, y este fue uno de los mejores hasta la fecha. Los alumnos se pusieron a bailar tocando algunos de los mejores éxitos, para el deleite de sus padres y compañeros, desde Arctic Monkeys hasta Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Fue un viaje al pasado para muchos de nosotros y los alumnos actuaron de forma brillante frente al público, lo cual es asombroso considerando que muchos de ellos no suelen tocar ningún instrumento. Mi enhorabuena para nuestro increíble Departamento de Música por su innovación y entusiasmo, que realmente se refleja en los alumnos.

Actividades y Excursiones

También tuvimos algunas actividades increíbles durante las últimas dos semanas, incluyendo la Feria de Ciencias de Key Stage 3, donde los alumnos crearon sus propios experimentos, que luego expusieron y explicaron a otros estudiantes y padres. Hicieron un trabajo fantástico y aportaron ideas fascinantes. Fue maravilloso escuchar a alumnos de Year 7 presentar sus resultados con tanta madurez y autoridad. También recibimos la visita de la empresa 8 Billion Ideas, que impartió un taller con nuestros estudiantes de Year 10 por segundo año consecutivo. Esta actividad de dos días les animó a crear un nuevo producto, diseñarlo, comercializarlo y luego presentarlo a profesores y padres en un ambiente de feria, con resultados sorprendentes. Hablaron con gran confianza y entusiasmo, es evidente que tenemos algunos emprendedores en Year 10.

Excursiones

En las últimas dos semanas también hemos disfrutado de las excursiones de fin de curso de nuestros alumnos de Year 6 en Córdoba, Year 7 en Cádiz y Year 9 en Madrid, mientras que Year 10 realizó jornadas de actividades combinadas con talleres universitarios y de orientación profesional. Es una buena manera de terminar el curso. Con ello se han creado muchos recuerdos, así que gracias a los profesores que organizaron estos viajes.

Entrega de premios

Nuestro último día fue la asamblea final con la entrega anual de premios, donde los alumnos fueron galardonados por su esfuerzo y logros en cada una de sus asignaturas en las diferentes etapas. Es un placer reconocer y recompensar todo su esfuerzo de este año, y felicidades a todos los nominados. Además, en esta ocasión, los alumnos del año fueron:

Premio del Directors 2025

Despedida, Mrs. Karen

Es un momento triste para nosotros despedirnos de Miss Karen Kearns, Directora de Primaria, que regresa a Reino Unido. Durante años, fue la directora de ambos colegios, por lo que realizó un papel fundamental en el desarrollo de nuestro centro de Secundaria, y muchos miembros del personal de Swans School Secundaria tienen una fuerte conexión con ella. La echaremos de menos como compañera y amiga, y le deseamos todo lo mejor para el futuro.

Por último, permítanme despedir con cariño a los alumnos y al personal que nos dejan este año. Todos han contribuido a hacer de este gran colegio lo que es hoy, les deseamos todo lo mejor para el futuro y espero que disfruten de unas maravillosas vacaciones de verano.

Los alumnos regresarán a la escuela el próximo miércoles 3 de septiembre, así que les pedimos que disfruten de un tiempo libre y quizás también que dejen descansar el teléfono móvil por un rato.

Gracias por todo su apoyo este año. Nuestra escuela sigue mejorando, y eso se debe en gran medida a su compromiso e implicación como padres, lo que nos ayuda a realizar nuestro trabajo con eficacia.
